Thermoguard Wallcoat – Intumescent Basecoat

Class O + new. Class B s1 dO. – Certified protection

Wallcoat is a protective basecoat to apply before Wallcoat SFR.

Multiple layers of paint of varying types or brands have been proven can create a medium or high flame spread risk.

In addition both normal decorative paints and flame retardant paints commony used until recently create toxic smoke and flaming droplets in a fire.

Painted Woodchip and Wallpaper also create a severe flamespread risk.

The Fire Safety Order makes it mandatory for property managers to guard against flamespread & smoke risks in a fire.

Provided the old paints are firm ,  all these risks are eliminated – regardless of the number or type of wall paints on the wall –  after normal preparation with:

  • 1 coat Thermoguard Wallcoat
  • 1 coat Wallcoat SFR smoke & flame retardant
 Available in Matt or eggshell , BS 4800 , BS 381C and RAL colours

FIRE CERTIFICATE

Thermoguard issue a fire certificate upon request for correctly specified projects for client records, insurance, fire and building authority.

SMOKE AND FLAME RETARDANT FIRE PROTECTION PAINT SYSTEM – UPGRADES MULTI-LAYER PAINTED WALLS & CEILINGS TO CLASS B S1 DO AND CLASS O

TECHNICAL – PLASTERBOARD 30 & 60 MINUTES

We recommend this is forwarded for Authority approval.

We issue a 30 min Fire Certificate to upgrade 9 mm plasterboard and  60 min on 12.5 mm plasterboard below voids below 22mm tongue & groove floors or as one side of a partition wall using the specification below, based on the evidence below.


Wallcoat Intumescent Paint added minimum 30 mins Fire Resistance to 12.5 mm plasterboard in a 90 min indicative UKAS Fire Test Laboratory.

In all cases a 25 mm MDF was located 70 mm behind the cement of plasterboards in place of floor boards or a board typically the other side of a partition stud wall

Temperatures were monitored on the protected face (facing away from the furnace) of the MDF, and char damage to the side of MDF facing the plasterboard or cement board was measured following the 90 min Fire Test. Char damage was 10 >12 mm, indicating unprotected exposure to fire of 15 > 20 mins during the 90 min period. Insulation was maintained for 60 mins.


The TV documentary Megastructures “Building from Disaster” demonstrated a 45 min. max. severity burn test on 25mm softwood panels, with our Wallcoat/ Timbercoat intumescent painted , normal painted and unpainted panels. The last two burnt completely through within 6 mins, whereas the panel protected with wallcoat / Timbercoat had lost only 1 – 2 mm to charring and maintained full insulation.

Apply 3 coats Thermoguard Wallcoat @ 21 sq m / 5kg per coat.  0r. 4 coats @ 28 sq m per 5 kg / coat

Apply 1 coat Smoke & flame Retardant “SFR” Dualcoat matt or eggshell – 9see colour charts)

Products are water-based.

The plasterboard must be sound and any paint must be firmly adhered**.

Hard or smooth paints must be thoroughly abraded to provide a key.

Ensure surfaces are dry & free from contamination.

TECHNICAL – CEMENTITIOUS 30-60-90 MINS

We recommend this is forwarded for Authority approval.

We issue a 30 min Fire Certificate to upgrade 9mm or 20 min fire rated cementitious board and 60 mins to 12mm 30 min cement-based board under-drawing 22mm+ tongue & groove floor boards or as one side of a fire rated stud partition wall using the specification below, based on the evidence below

TECHNICAL – CONCRETE 30-60-90 MINS FIRE RESISTANCE

We recommend this is forwarded for Authority approval.

We issue a 120 min Fire Certificate to upgrade 90 min fire – rated concrete, 90 mins for 60 min Fire- Rated concrete and 60 mins to 30 min concrete using the specification below, based on the evidence below.
